Implementation of traffic monitoring systems based on video cameras and specialized detectors that collect primary information on the state of traffic flows in the city, as well as the adoption of traffic controller management solutions or the implementation of adaptive traffic control systems, imposes new requirements on the communication channels used for management of, e.g., traffic controllers.

As a result, the municipal authorities need to either modernize the existing infrastructure or build new data networks that provide high bandwidth and reliability.
